April 28: Emerging Tech 3

Hello again, it's Al here:

For my grand finale, I have chosen to create a photo album on Mixbook, highlighting some silly adventures of my friends and family. I had a lot of fun making it.

Mixbook is a web-based application that allows the users to create their own custom photo albums for whatever they like. They can customize the layout, themes, photos, captions, and do just about anything else they like. After the album is finished, it can either be posted online for free, or for a fee the user can have an actual album printed out exactly the way it was made and have it shipped directly. Mixbook allows users to upload files from their hard drives, as well as a variety of websites such as facebook and photobucket.

Mixbook is very easy to get started with and use. I didn't even need to watch the tutorial. All you have to do is simply upload your pictures and click on whatever you want to edit on each page in a similar fashion to powerpoint. I used a bunch of pictures of my friends and me living our silly lives. This is a great app for anyone who wants to create photo albums, and would save a lot of money if they wanted to create a cost-efficient album for something like a wedding.

Below I have posted a photo slide show that was created on Roxio PhotoShow! This is an app that allows you to create customized slide shows with added captions, graphics, effects, etc. This is neat for sharing your photos in a fun, artistic way! It was very user friendly and easy to use. All you do is upload some pictures and the site prompts you through each step of customizing your slide show. Hurrah!!! I don't have any real tips for using this app, because it is very easy to use. Just don't accidentally post any nude pictures of yourself, otherwise you may get in trouble!

RSS feeds

I don't know if I will use this ever again in the future. It seems like it would be a useful tool to stay up to date on certain things, but I just don't get my news off of the internet that much.

I did find out some cool things about upcoming running events, including a race in the snow where the runners use snowshoes. I also learned that some people actually think that it is not important to teach teachers how to teach, which is a bit disturbing to a prospective future teacher. I also learned about a few cool new acoustic guitars made by Taylor.

I did not know what an RSS feed was before this assignment, so that is a good learning experience. I am just glad that I am somewhat computer savvy, because I had trouble following the vague instructions. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't know their way around a computer a bit.

Podcast Project

Today I have chosen to post a podcast of a musical recording of mine. A podcast is a web-based audio broadcast that is accessed through a subscription to a website. I used podcastpeople. These are great for sharing audio recordings with people. For me, it is a great way to get my recordings on the internet and make them available for others to hear. It was easy to create and free to try out. Here is a link to my podcast:

If you like what you here, I will post more songs in the future. Show your friends too!
